There is nothing we can’t do in fiction – the question is – should we? Part of writing is saying “what happens?” part of editing is saying “Should it happen?” and more importantly “Is it important to the story?” Sometimes its a choice: do we go big, or do we go small?
Today’s Prompt: Go Big
I think in most of my stories, the hero isn’t the hero because they decide to do something – they’re just in the right place at the right time (although more often than not, they’re in the wrong place at precisely the wrong time.) – It’s all a matter of perspective
Today’s Prompt : Remind me to never do that again
No matter how much you love a person, no matter how dedicated you are… we all need a break sometimes, even from ourselves.
Today’s Prompt: A getaway.
Thinking about the lyrics from a YES song – Don’t surround yourself with yourself, move on back two squares…
Today’s Prompt (bonus points if you know the movie): “Always, no, never… forget to check your references…”
I remember when I was a kid, the challenge/ritual was to be the first to say “White Rabbit” to someone (and it should be your first words)… I have no idea where it came from…
Today’s Prompt: Tradition vs. Superstition
I seem to have fallen behind again. I keep getting lost in things that seem out of control. People seem to want to yell and cling to their version of reality and only listen to things that agree with them.. but nothing grows in a vacuum.
Today’s Prompt (or more appropriately yesterday’s prompt): Look beyond
The problem with surprise twists and looking at things from a different perspective is the fact that… people come to expect it, you become predictable in your unpredictability. Sometimes the best twist, is the one that never happens.
Today’s Prompt: Suspense is waiting for the shoe that never drops.
