Does weather set the mood, reflect the mood or enhance it?
I was driving the other day and realized that the sky was the barren gray you get in winter and it was the first time it actually felt like winter. The day before, the sky was blue and the temperature was in the low fifties and I started to think How right the cold/gray weather felt.
The cliche start to a suspense story or a horror story is “It was a dark and stormy night.” That phrase gets us into a mood, it prepares us for what is to come– but which came first? The mood or the setting?
